“Linda was sitting at her desk, munching on the apple that she wished was a turkey sausage sandwich on a buttery biscuit slathered in honey. William Carter walked past her open door and stood at the copier. Carter was the only black male in the building that didn’t use a mop and a spray bottle, during his time at work. Carter had worked for the company for over 3 years but was out in the field most of the time. She was shocked to see him in the executive suites. Linda excitedly grabbed up some papers from her desk and scurried over to the copier. She nudged Will with her elbow, as she moved next to him.
“Oh, excuse me! Oh, Will, it’s you!” Linda said coyly. “We haven’t seen much of you lately.”
“Hey Linda, how are you? You of all people should know that that boss of yours keeps me pretty busy out in the field. I need a job like yours, Linda. It would be nice to kick back behind a desk for a while.”
Linda looked up at Will and smiled demurely. “If you’re nice to me, maybe I can put a good word in for you. You know the boss and I are pretty tight.”
“Yeah, that’s what I hear. Judgin by the look on your face, what’s it gonna cost me if you hook me up?” Will smiled a toothy grin at Linda. “I’m jus playin. You don’t have to answer that question. Look, it was good talking to you, Linda. I gotta get this report to the CFO, get back to my office, and finish up some paperwork, before I go home.”
