I started investing in my early twenties when I lived and worked in a small farming community in southwestern Michigan.
I grew up in Detroit. Back in the day Detroit had the fifth largest population in the country. The town that I lived in – Coldwater for my first professional job – had a population of about ten thousand when I lived there.
Moving to a rural setting as a young adult was revelatory. I was embraced by the community and got a firsthand look at small town culture. Living in a rural community taught me the value of leaving a legacy.
Twenty-eight years later I retired from working full time for someone else. I now spend my time writing, investing, traveling and sleeping as late as I want.
